The story so far.. Where we started – Where we are now

When we started in 2000 we had an area that was failing.

Roughly based on the Little Horton electoral ward, one of the most deprived in the country, the New Deal for Communities area faced severe difficulties and under achievement.

Crime rates were twice the national average, fear of crime four times the national average. Unemployment stood at 12.5%. Only 24.1% of local children were passing 5 A*-C GCSE's. There was a lack of community facilities and problems with litter, graffiti and vandalism.

Figures have changed dramatically.
  • 100% of pupils now get 5 or more A*- C GCSE’s.
  • Unemployment is down to 8.25%.
  • Crimes per 1,000 Population is down from a peak of 105 to 60. People feel safer in their homes and neighbourhoods.
  • 20% more people think their health is good
  • House prices are rising faster than in the rest of the district.
