The story so far.... Economic Improvement

‘What we are looking for is a stable and productive workforce. Working with agencies such as At Work helps us to achieve that.’ Gordon Doyle, Process Control Manager, Jacuzzi UK .

Support to residents and business linked to development of skills are the three key elements of the Economic Improvement programme.

At Work, based in high tech premises at 558 Manchester Road, matched BD5 residents with suitable jobs. This support is available to all residents whether unemployed, between jobs, signing on or not. Through the Job Start Bursaries scheme small grants helped residents take up interview and job offers. The Information Station gave advice and guidance on careers and training and looked after the Training Awards project through which grants of up to £1,000 help residents take up training opportunities for which no other funding is available.

Businesses benefited through the Enterprise Loan Fund. Bradford Trident also payed the first year’s subscription fees for Chamber of Commerce membership for any business in the area that is not already a member and Trident E-business helped to increase the number of businesses trading electronically.

Intermediate labour market projects, like the Green Team, also helped local people back into employment and benefited the Trident area by providing a rapid response cleansing service. YouthBuild provides training and employment opportunities within the construction industry.

Business Director Vipin Joshi says, ‘Economic health is a key indicator of how successful Bradford Trident is being in turning the area around.’
