The story so far.... Youth and Community Involvement

"We're bowled over by the grant made to improve the ground." Haqueq Siddique -Treasurer of Bowling Old Lane Cricket Club

The Youth and Community Involvement programme has been one of the busiest areas of Trident's work.

  • Hundreds of applications for funding were made through the Community Initiatives Fund. Phase 2 of the Trident Fund allocated £12,000 each to 16 organisations and the Community Facilities Fund helped community groups keep their buildings in good condition and bring them up to modern safety and accessibility standards.

  • Sport and the arts are also contained within this area with support being given to the Bradford Trident Football Association, the Sports for Life Project and extensive support for arts activity through links with Bradford Festival, local artists and the ever popular Summer Celebration.

  • There's extensive support for youth development too. The Youth Forum offers young people the opportunity to directly engage in the decision making processes of Trident. In addition through the Youth Support Fund up to £1,000 can be granted to youth based activities in the area. Other projects included the Youth Incentives Scheme which encouraged community work and promoted community cohesion and the Action for Youth project which offered accredited training opportunities for young people.

  • Neighbourhood centres are an important part of this theme. We have opened the Mayfield Centre, Woodroyd Centre and Park Lane Centre. We have invested in many other centres - Chichester House, the Italian Centre and the West End Centre at St Oswald's Church to name just a few.

Community Director Jamshed Khan says, "Community facilities are crucial to engaging people and opening opportunity for all."
