Phase One: Started 3rd February – Changing Rooms, Balcony and WBYI/computer room – This phase involved the refurbishment of the showers and changing area including new tiling, sanitaryware and fittings. In order to keep the sports hall open during this period, we had a portable solution for changing and shower facilities adjacent to the building.
Phase Two: Started 10th March – Community Area – Male/Female/Disabled Toilets, Offices, Community Hall and resources rooms – This phase involved replacement of existing toilets facilities, pipework, electrical wiring, fire alarm systems, lighting and heating. Similarly, to ensure we can continued activity and courses, we made available the other spaces within the centre for use during the day for all service providers based in the building.
Phase Three: Started 14th April – Sports Hall – This phase involved the installation of a brand new boiler and electrical system for the sports hall. We now have radiant heaters overhead, new lights and also improve ventilation in order to avoid floor warping and general energy efficiency in future. We also have had a new roof put on the building with full photo voltaic (solar) capacity.
As well as these improvements, the centre has been given a lick of fresh paint and new fascia boards erected on the outside of the building. We will be putting up the new signs on the centre in the not so distant future.
Following consulatation from local residents and other stakeholders, it was agreed that a renaming should take place and it was decided the centre will be called the ‘Parkside Centre’, inkeeping with its history and long heritage.
We have also been successful in a funding bid from BIFFA, who have awarded us enough finance to replace the existing floor which has, of recent, been subject to damage due to its age and drainage problems. In order to reduce disruption, we aim to have the new floor installed during the quieter winter period if possible.
We look forward to seeing the coomunity make full use of the centre and hope for another 50 years of Parkside success.
