Other comments made following the Trident exhibition on 15th were as follows:

  • Traffic calming needed throughout West Bowling. Present attempts are unsuccessful. Problem areas are along Gaythorne Rd/ New Cross St/ Parkside Rd
  • There is a lack of care facilities for children before and after school.
  • The area is densely populated enough and money should be spent on creating open spaces and employment opportunities.
  • All pavements should be made accessible for disabled users with kerbs on all roads.
  • More spaces for children within the Little Horton area are needed.
  • Houses within the area should be improved, if this is not done it is a waste of government money.
  • Clean the area and teach people to keep it so instead of wasting money on rebuilding houses and the area.
  • More facilities for children are needed, there are none when walking from the city centre to West Bowling/ Marshfields. The university has the only facilities.
  • Private sector houses are needed in every part of the area.
  • Do not spend any more money upon flat development.
  • Why is the Parkway/ Springwood Gardens area not included in the Trident area? 'I think that you should improve the whole area, starting at one end and finishing at the other. Otherwise I think you are doing a good job.'
  • Less racism around Buttershaw School
  • West Bowling need more of a community environment Improved lighting all round
  • The Mayfield area should become a sports centre because there is no sport centre near Marshfield except Richard Dunns
  • Why not paint the depressing grey concrete buildings (new housing development on Spring Mill Street.) yellow/ light blue/ light green?
  • Children's safe play area.
  • Children's links with the library- toy library
  • 'All the intended plans look excellent and I look forward to seeing everything put into action and creating a safe and friendly environment for everyone'.
  • 'We want Bradford to become a place that we can become proud of and not be ashamed of, so please if possible try and make it so'.
  • 'I think that you should improve the whole area, starting at one end and finishing at the other. Otherwise I think you are doing a good job'.

And comments made following the mobile exhibitions include:

  • Back alley's are generally in a poor condition. On the day of consultation a problem area was visited on the request of a resident. A car had hit his child earlier in the summer due to speeding cars down the routes. This was a problem that was regular and traffic calming / eradication down these routes was therefore requested. Tarmacing and maintenance also needed.
  • A recreation area for children and youngsters in the Little Horton and Marshfields areas. The following suggestions were made for Little Horton:
  1. A playground on Sawrey Place to be transformed into something useful for the youngsters
  2. Melbourne House
  3. A waste ground between Howard St. and Morley St.
  4. Talk to Bradford College. Apparently their playing fields are hardly used by BCC.
  5. Need for an indoor sports centre in the area
  • Crime is a big problem in Little Horton
  • Street car Parking a problem
  • More street lights needed
  • Facilities for small children and youth facilities are needed throughout the area
  • And more zebra crossings
  • Housing conditions in the Little Horton area are extremely poor: REPEATED BY VIRTUALLY EVERYONE
  • There is a problem at the Polish centre and school, where elderly and disabled people and children are attending for meetings, meals, children for Polish Lessons etc. At Edmund Street off Little Horton Lane traffic is dangerous. We would be very grateful if some kind of speed bumps could be placed to prevent some accidents.

Specifically regarding Little Horton

  • Witnessed decline and under-investment for many years
  • Need of youth centre and separate play area for younger children
  • Resident car parking also needs improving
  • Support for demolishing streets to allow for such improvements
  • Little Horton Lane - Mother of 3 children (all under 5) complains that there is no play area for them. Need of street lighting
  • Front and back alleys need tarmacing
  • A youth club for the older children also needed
  • Street lights and front and back roads need improving
  • Need of community centre and play area for youths
