BRADFORD TRIDENT - Trident Community Council

Trident's Community Council was established in 2009 and it is the first Urban Parish Council in the district. The twelve Community Councillors represent neighbourhoods within BD5 and six of them are on the Board of Bradford Trident. Its formation is key to the forward strategy of Bradford Trident, as it ensures that the ongoing Social Enterprise has a core of democratically elected Board members.

The Chair of the Community Council, Councillor Taj Salam, is also the Chair of Bradford Trident.

The Coalition Government's proposed Localism Bill will bring new powers to Parish and Community Councils, and greater financial resources and decision making when a new 'General Power of Competence' is introduced. New opportunities could include the management of local community assets and the power to stipulate Section 106 requirements on new developments.

The Community Council is already making an impact in the Trident area and will play a significant role in the future shift towards local decision making.
